There once was an X from place B,
Who satisfied predicate P,
The X did thing A,

Resulting in circumstance C.

There was a young lady of Niger [Variante: Riga],
Who smiled as she rode on a tiger.
They returned from the ride
With the lady inside
And the smile on the face of the tiger.

Puella Rigensis ridebat
Quam tigris in tergo vehebat.
Externa profecta
Interna revecta
Sed risus cum tigre manebat.

Versuch einer deutschen Version von mir

Es ward ein Fräulein aus Riga
das ritt lächelnd aus auf 'nem Tiger
zurück kamen sie auch,
das Fräulen ward im Bauch
und das Lächeln am Gesichte des Tiger

There was a young lady of Wright [Variante: named Bright]
Who travelled much faster than light
She departed one day
In a relative way
And returned in the previous night

The limerick packs laughs anatomical
In space that is quite economical.

But the good ones I've seen
So seldom are clean

And the clean ones so seldom are comical.

There was a young man from Japan
Whose limericks never would scan.

When asked why this was,
He replied "It's because

I always try to fit as many syllables into the last line as ever I possibly can."

There once was a man from the sticks
Who liked to compose limericks.

But he failed at the sport,
For he wrote 'em too short.

There was an old man of St. Bees,
Who was stung in the arm by a wasp,

When asked, "Does it hurt?"
He replied, "No, it doesn't,

I'm so glad it wasn't a hornet

A decrepit old gas man named Peter,
Whilst hunting around for the meter,
Touched a leak with his light,
He arose out of sight,
And, as anyone can see by reading this,
it also destroyed the meter.

There once was a fellow from Perth
Who was born on the day of his birth
He got married, they say
on his wife's wedding day
and he died the day he quitted the earth.
